Recently, the issue of abortion has popped up in the news a few times: an abortionist nominated for the Order of Canada; a law designed to protect pregnant women being contested; a pro-life group at York getting its funding cut, etc.

Among all this, I am surprised at how passionately some people preach the pro-choice movement. Any intent to protect an unborn child is a violation against women's rights. Any mention of the term is re-opening a closed and concluded debate. The latter is particularly odd, considering the debate is far from closed. If it were, it wouldn't be an issue, now would it?

There are those that are so passionate on the issue that it shocks me that so much effort is put to "protecting women's choice" at the expense of the life of a child. They even try to re-label to opposite side as "anti-choice". Well, then, I'll just refer to them as "anti-life".

First of all, pro-lifers are not anti-choice. Far from it. Women most certainly have a choice. That choice comes in the bedroom. Beyond that, it becomes a matter of responsibility. You made your choice freely, now it is your responsibility to live up to your choice. Another person should not die just because you were foolish.

Of course, the entire matter comes down to whether or not one agrees that an unborn child is a life, hence the controversy. It makes me sad, though, that there are so many that will fight so hard to convince people that there is no life, just so they can avoid their own responsibility. Anti-life, indeed.
